Abstract

1,035,027. Colour television tubes. D. M. GOODMAN. Dec. 28, 1962, No. 10318/66. Divided out of 1,035,026. Heading H1D. [Also in Division H4] In a beam-indexing colour cathode-ray tube system, the multi-strip phosphor screen, when scanned, produces a plurality of different types of electro-magnetic index signals, e.g. U.V. light and X-rays of different wavelengths as described in Specification 1,035,026. The index signals, one type for each colour, are detected, filtered and transmitted, e.g. by light pipes 174, 176, 178, to respective photocathodes 208, 206, 204 to produce pulsed electron streams which are modulated in accordance with the corresponding video signals applied to grids 194, 192, 190. The modulated electron streams are amplified by dynodes 200, 196 and received by an anode 198 connected to the cathode-ray tube gun cathode 218 by a coaxial transmission line terminated by a resistance 212 between the cathode and grid 220, to produce a modulated electron beam 114. The photo-cathodes and corresponding grids, instead of being in a common envelope, may be in individual envelopes each provided with dynodes and an anode connected to the cathoderay tube gun, and possibly also to vernier deflection or beam-shaping plates 214 for additional modulation and control, Fig. 5 (not shown). Alternatively, the photo-cathodes, grids and dynodes may all be arranged in the cathode-ray tube envelope as indicated at 230, the coaxial transmission line and conventional electron gun being omitted, and anode 198 being replaced by a secondary emissive electrode from which the modulated electron beam is generated directly. Index signal detectors and light pipes may also be arranged within the envelope, Fig. 9 (not shown).
