Abstract

1,035,028. Colour television tubes; electron multipliers. D. M. GOODMAN. Dec. 28, 1962, No. 10319/66. Divided out of 1,035,026. Heading H1D. [Also in Division H4] In a colour television display system of the beam indexing type, a pulse of desired width and amplitude is derived from an electromagnetic indexing signal by means of a photomultiplier including photo-cathode 50, dynodes 54-60, and an anode 64 carrying a phosphor element 64 of HexZnO. The phosphor element is excited by the leading edge of the detected and amplified index signal, and fused silicon light pipe 66 provides a feedback path to photo-cathode 50, so that a saturated output signal is rapidly obtained at 62, until a negative signal derived from gate 76 or from a delay line, is fed back to dynode 58 via capacitor 82 to effect cut-off. A voltage source 70 connected to first dynode 54 may be adjusted to control the threshold of operation of the photo-multiplier, while voltage source 72 may be adjusted to control the overall time delay through the dynodes, and resistor 74 may be adjusted to control the amplitude of the output signal, these controls being ganged together, if desired. The photo-multiplier output controls the application of colour video signals to the cathode-ray display tube via gates 76, 78 and delay 80, as described in Specification 1,035,026. A filter 52 is provided for detecting only one of a plurality of different types of electromagnetic indexing signals.
