Abstract
An air drying lacquer is produced by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a polyhydroxy compound containing at least one b -g ethylenically unsaturated ether group and dissolving in a lacquer solvent. The b -g ethylenically unsaturated ether group is defined as having the skeletal formula <FORM:1034816/C3/1> in which the double bond does not form part of an aromatic or conjugated system. Polyhydroxy compounds specified are: sorbitol triallyl ether, sorbitol tetraallyl ether, glycerol monoallyl ether, pentaerythritol diallyl ether, pentaerythritol monoallyl ether and trimethylol propane monoallyl ether. The reaction may be controlled by incorporating a monohydrin alcohol, e.g. benzyl alcohol. In Example (1) tetra allyl sorbitol, benzyl alcohol, tolylene diisocyanate and quinoline (catalyst) were mixed together, allowed to react and the product dissolved in xylene and a cobalt drier added.
