Abstract
The invention comprises bis(acetaldehyde)bisthreoninato)copper and its preparation by reacting bis(glycinato) copper with acetaldehyde in a solvent medium in the presence of an alkaline catalyst, the molar ratio of acetaldehyde to bis(glycinato)copper being at least four, to produce bis(acetaldehyde bis(threoninato) copper, and separating the water-insoluble product from the water-soluble corresponding allo-threonine compound. The solvent medium may be water or a volatile organic solvent such as methanol or ethanol; in the latter case the solution may be evaporated to dryness and the residue extracted with water. Free threonine may be obtained from the complex by the process of Specification 894,047. Specification 814,063 also is referred to.
