893,746. Cellular polyurethanes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 9, 1959 [Jan. 21, 1959], No. 2211/59. Class 2(5) [Also in Group V] Cellular polyurethanes are obtained by reacting, in the presence of water, an organic polyisocyanate with an ester having at least one unesterified hydroxyl group and derived solely from a polyhydric alcohol and an aliphatic hydroxy acid, which acid preferably contains C 12-22 , a list of suitable acids, alcohols, esters and other components being given. Catalysts, e.g. zinc oxide, cobalt naphthenate and tertiary amines; fillers; plasticizers; cell modifiers; colourants; fire proofers and emulsifiers may also be present. Reaction may be modified by including an acid in the reaction mixture ,particularly when the ester contains basic nitrogen atoms. When bromoacetic acid is used, fireproofing qualities result.
