Abstract

The invention comprises D 5-androstene-3b , 17b -diol 3-formate 17-chloral-hemiacetal and its carboxylic esters, and the preparation of testosterone 17-chloral-hemiacetal ester by reacting D 5-androstene-3b ,17b -diol 3-formate with chloral or a functional derivative thereof, esterifying the free hydroxy group of the above 17-chloral-hemiacetal thus obtained with a carboxylic acid, and oxidising this compound by the Oppenauer method.
