Abstract
The hydrocracking of a nitrogen-containing hydrocarbon oil is effected by hydrofining to a nitrogen content of 15-200 p.p.m., followed by hydrocracking in the presence of a crystalline zeolitic aluminosilicate having a pore size of 6-15 <\>rA, containing a platinum group metal and containing less than 10% weight of alkali metal oxide. The feed preferably boils above 400 DEG F. and contains at least 100 p.p.m. nitrogen which is reduced by hydrofining over a Group VI and/or VIII metal oxide or sulphide, supported, if desired, at 500-800 DEG F., 500-3000 p.s.i.g., 0.1-10 vol./vol./hour with 1,000-20,000 SCF hydrogen per barrel. After removal of ammonia, hydrocracking is effected at 450-800 DEG F., 500-3,000 p.s.i.g., 0.1-10 vol./vol./hour with 1,000-20,000 SCF hydrogen per barrel. Alkali metal ions are removed by base exchange to introduce another metal or hydrogen ions and impregnated or base exchanged to introduce 0.01-5% weight platinum or palladium.
