Abstract

1,183,778. Hydrocracking catalyst. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 1 July, 1968 [3 July, 1967], No. 31290/68. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C5] A hydrocracking catalyst is prepared by first precipitating from an aqueous solution containing silicate ions, a silica gel, subjecting the gel to ageing at elevated temperature, precipitating Al(OH) 3 or the aged gel by addition of an aqueous solution of Al(NO 3 ) 3 and an alkaline reacting solution in such quantities that the SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 weight ratio in the finished carrier is in the range from 0.6:1 to 1.8:1 separating, drying and finally calcining the resulting precipitate of Al(OH) 3 or SiO 2 gel at a temperature of at least 400‹C and then supporting one or more salts of a metal or metals of the VI and/or VIII Groups on the carrier and subsequently calcining the carrier containing the metal salt or salts. The precipitate of SiO 2 gel is obtained by the addition of acids, preferably- HNO 3 , and not H 3 SO 4 . The alkaline reacting solution may be Na, K or NH 4 <SP>+</SP> hydroxide. Specified metals which may be added are W, Mo, Ni, Co, Pt or Pd with W-Ni being a preferred combination. A sulphiding treatment may also be carried out using H 2 and H 2 S, CS 2 or one or more mercaptans at 350 to 450‹C.
