Abstract
103,316. Macintosh Cable Co., and Sankey, P. W. Jan. 15, 1916. Cables and compound conductors.-Relates to a die for inserting into electric cables, during their manufacture, the radial conductive shields described in Specification 16900/15. The die is described as applied to a known type of stranding or laying-up machine for making cables, and comprises a pair of separate members, the outer member in the case of a three-core cable having three cheeks 2, Fig. 3, with radiating spaces 3, and the inner member having radial ribs 4, Fig. 2, adapted to be adjustably disposed in the spaces 3 so as to leave ways for the tapes, which are thereby grouped and bent to form the shields. The spaces 3 are tapered so as to be larger at the entry end 12. Fig. 5 shows the members in section and the method of attaching them to the rotating hollow shaft. Before entering the die, the tapes are centralized by the guide-plate 22, and, after passing through the die, are accurately grouped bv the adjustable die 20 and delivered at the point where the conductors 25 are associated and entwined to form the complete cable.
