Abstract

1,033,035. Valves; pressure relieving devices. BROWN BOVERI/KRUPP REAKTORBAU G.m.b.H. Nov. 24, 1964 [Nov. 26, 1963], No. 47818/64. Heading F2V. In a pressurized system 1 sealed by a bursting disc 20 and protected by a safety valve 6, e.g. where the gas is toxic or all losses thereof must be avoided, the reliability of the disc 20 is improved by loading the disc on the outlet side by a pressure within balancing chamber 5 which is provided by a source of compressed air, via regulating valve 22 controlled by pressure gauge 21, maintained substantially equal to the normal operating pressure of the system 1 until discharged to the outlet side of valve pressure relief 6 via passage 8, to permit the disc 20 to operate, when a pilot valve 9 is actuated by pressure in the system 1 exceeding the desired level. The pilot valve comprises a closure 9 upon stem 11 loaded by a spring 15 and opened by the pressure of system 1 acting upon plate 14 within a chamber sealed by bellows 16 and 17. The disc 20 may be supported by a backing member 19.
