Abstract

1,032,823. Valves. LINCOLN VALVES Ltd. April 17, 1963 [Jan. 17, 1962], No. 1740/62. Heading F2V. A rotary ball valve comprises a ball 12 formed with a flow passage 14 to control the flow through ports 4, 6. The ball 12 is rotated by a spindle 24 formed with a wedge-shaped portion 22 engaging the ball such that when the valve is closed, axial movement of the spindle varies the pressure of the ball on two seats 10, 12. The ball may be provided with a slit 18 extending along the length of the passage 14 at one side and a groove 20 which extends through part of the ball thickness. The ball is rotated by a handle 36 and the axial adjustment of the spindle 24 is by a handle 34 which rotates a screwed sleeve 33. The spindle may be inclined at an angle to the axis of the bore 14. The spindle is sealed by packing 26 compressed by a gland head 30 which is locked by screws 32. A plug 42 is provided for draining the casing.
