Abstract

1,032,688. Hydraulic brakes. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Feb. 25, 1965, No. 8099/65. Heading F2F. A brake master cylinder 1 has a reservoir 3 provided with a filler cap 9 which comprises a membrane 12 of silicone rubber or other suitable material whereby air can pass into the space above the surface of the hydraulic fluid but water and water vapour is prevented from doing so. The membrane is secured in a plastic ring which is sealed between outer and inner metal members 10, 11, each of which is provided with an aperture 10c, 11c, respectively, the two members being crimped together at 11d. A sealing ring 14 is located between the cap and the top of the reservoir. A one-way valve 5 controls flow of fluid from the reservoir to the master cylinder chamber which contains a piston 2 for pressurizing the fluid, the fluid passing via an outlet 6 to the brakes.
