1,030,597. Gear-cutting and grinding. P. PATIN, and J. J. CAUBET. April 22, 1965 [April 24, 1964], No. 17101/65. Headings B3D and B3K. Apparatus for machining a hypocycloidaltoothed gear 21 for a speed reduction unit or pump comprises a main rotating shaft 2 carrying an offset secondary shaft 17 on which a work-holder 20 is mounted for rotation, the rotating means including a fixed gear 16 coaxial with the main shaft and two gears 14, 15, carried on a frame 6 fast with the main shaft and one of which engages the fixed gear and the other of which engages a gear integral with the work-holder. The fitment is mounted so that the shaft 2 can be driven and the milling cutter 28 or grinding wheel 27 is mounted on the machine's cutter-spindle. The frame 6 is clamped to a boss 5 on the spindle and carries a balance weight 9. The shaft 17 is bolted to the boss 5 so that its eccentricity can be adjusted. Back-lash between the gears 26 and 15 is taken up by adjusting the frame 6 about the boss 5. In operation, the shaft 2 rotates carrying the gears 14, 15 around the fixed gear 16. The work thus rotates on the shaft 17 which itself rotates about the centre of the shaft 2.
