Abstract
1,030,555. Water heaters. ING. TRAUTNER G.m.b.H. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 23, 1963; Oct. 19, 1963], No. 30960/64. Headings F4A and F4W. A common casing 2 contains two separately operable gas - fired water heaters 1a, 1b (Fig. 2, not shown), the uppermost space within the casing 2 being formed as a collecting chamber 7 connected with the internal spaces through which pass the hot gases from each of the water heaters 1a, 1b As shown in Fig. 2, from the top of each of the water heaters 1a, 1b the hot gases pass to antechambers 3a, 3b and then out from apertures 4a, 4b in the front slanting wall of the antechambers into baffle space 9 (Fig. 3), which communicates with the free space outside the casing so providing an outlet for the gases in the event of blow-back from the flue 11. The gases then enter the common collecting chamber 7 past thermally actuated dampers 5a, 5b to flow to the chimney via flue 11 which may have an elbow (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the baffle space and collecting chambers are combined, the thermally-actuated dampers being mounted in the apertures in the front slanting walls of the antechambers. In a second modification (Fig. 6, not shown), the heaters 1a, 1b are provided with a common tapering antechamber 7a which funnels into the collecting chamber 7 connected to the flue 11. A horizontal plate 14 with raised edges diverts gases from the flue 11 during blowback from the collecting chamber 7 to communicate with the space outside the casing whilst the vertical partition 13 in the common antechamber 7a prevents exhaust gas flows from one heater to the other. Pre-prepared knockout portions may be provided in the casing to facilitate the connection of the flue pipe, the heaters may be interlocked to prevent both operating together and the unit may be mounted over a sink.
