Abstract
1,028,651. Television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 4, 1963 [Feb. 2, 1962], No. 4209/62. Heading H4F. [Also in Division H1] An arrangement for producing a scanning light beam comprises a cathode-ray tube having a flat luminescent screen 6 scanned by an electron beam to produce light which is projected through a light transparent member 2 forming part of, or structurally combined with, the tube envelope and having a planar outer surface 9 inclined to the screen so that optical aberrations which would otherwise arise at a target 8 which is not coaxial with the screen, due to oblique passage of light through the tube envelope, are reduced. The prism 2 shown, may be replaced by a plurality of wedges having parallel surfaces from which the light proceeds. In alternative arrangements, Figs. 3-6 (not shown), the luminescent screen 15 is spaced from a planar envelope wall portion 16 through which the scanning light beam is projected, wall portion 16 being perpendicular to the optical axis and inclined to screen 15. Also, the luminescent screen may be inclined to the electron gun axis so that " Keystone " distortion is introduced into the scanning raster, which distortion is cancelled at the light-scanned target by suitable relative dispostiion of the cathode-ray tube and target.
