Abstract

In producing a highly lustrous, dirt-repelling, antistatic coating on the hairs of a fur or skin, the hairy side of the fur or skin is treated, e.g. sprayed, painted or sawdust-drummed, with a neutral to weakly alkaline aqueous solution of one or more than one product each obtained by reacting a compound containing more than one epoxide and/or halohydrin group, per molecule, with a water-soluble polyamine containing polyalkylene oxide residues and having more than one reactive hydrogen atom linked to nitrogen, e.g. more than one amino group, per molecule, the said reaction product is stabilized and the treated fur or skin is then dried in air at normal or elevated temperature. Each reaction product may be stabilized by being acidified immediately after being formed. Each product may be obtained by reacting a polyalkylene oxide compound, e.g. a polyalkyleneglycolhalohydrin ether containing more than one halohydrin group per molecule, with ammonia and/or a polyamine in amounts so selected that, in the reaction mixture, the ratio of halogen atoms to reactive hydrogen atoms linked to nitrogen is between 4:5 and 7:5. Each product used in the aqueous coating solution may be prepared by the method described in Specifications 880,897 and 913,911. Mink, musquash, fox, marmot and rabbit furs and skins and lambskins may be treated according to the invention.
