Girder floors; reinforced block-work floors; roofs; reinforced block-work girders.-Floors and roofs are formed of blocks with longitudinal cavities a<4> and with dovetailed grooves a<2> on their meeting edges, the angles of the grooves being founded in a manner similar to that described in Specification 14267/15. The blocks are narrower on their top faces than on the lower faces, so that cement grouting may be inserted between the opposing grooves. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, a floor or roof is formed by laying side by side beams composed of the blocks strung on rods cemented in the cavities a<4>; rods may also be inserted in the cemented joints, and the ends of the rods may be hooked over steel plates which extend along the ends of the beams for tha length of the floor. For large spans, cross-beams f may be used and be formed of blocks laid flat or on edge and threaded on rods In a modification, the blocks are laid end to end and side by side on temporary supports, and the rods and grouting are inserted in the side joints.
