Abstract

110,211. Avey, S. Oct. 23, 1916. Joist floors; reinforced blockwork flors.-In a floor comprising hollow blocks grooved to bed on bars C between metal joists, the blocks are shaped at their lower edges so that they will pivot slightly when the temporary support or centring is removed; and one side of each block is sloped to provide a groove for cement between adjacent blocks. Hangers E connect the bars with the upper faces of the blocks and have their ends bent in opposite directions. The ends of the bars are first hooked into brackets D which are bent to engage the upper flanges of the joists, and the rod ends adjacent to a wall are turned up. The blocks and hangers are next laid and the centre of the span is raised by the temporary support. The brackets D yield as the rods are cambered. The joints are then grouted and the support is removed when the grouting has set. A top layer of concrete is applied before or after the support has been removed.
