Abstract

1,027,480. Wire stranding machines. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Jan. 8, 1965 [Jan. 11, 1964], No. 952/65. Heading D1T. The take up drum 9 of a wire stranding machine in coaxial with a surrounding rotor 5 that guides the stranded wires on to the drum 9, the rotor 5 being reciprocated along its axis to traverse the stranded wires on to the drum 9, the rotor 5 and drum 9 being rotatable at individual speeds so that a cable length may be stranded when being fed out of the machine as well as when it is fed into the machine by reversible feeding means 12. The rotor has reciprocating means 7 coupled to its bearings 6. The drum 9 is driven by means (not shown) coupled to the gears 11 via a slipping clutch, preferably of the hydraulic type.
