Abstract
1,264,123. Method of bunching filaments. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 24 April, 1969 [25 April, 1968], No. 19695/68. Heading D1T. [Also in Division H1] A method of laying up two or more insulated conductors 1 together with fillers 2 of low tensile strength comprises drawing the conductors 1 and fillers 2 from stationary supply devices 3 and into and through a rotating close-fitting die 7 to twist the resulting bunch 13, and then feeding the rotating twisted bunch 13 into a double twist bunching machine 14 whose flyer 15 is driven in the same direction as but at a speed less than the speed of rotation of the bunch 13 so that all or a substantial proportion of the twist present in the finished product taken up in the bunching machine is put in prior to its entry into the bunching machine. The speed of the flyer 15 may be one half of the speed of rotation of the bunch.
