Abstract
Random copolymers are prepared from two aliphatic olefins of two to five carbon atoms each by preparing in the presence of one olefin monomer a catalyst comprising an organometallic compound of a metal of Group I, II or III of Mendeleef's Periodic Table and a halide of a transition metal of Group IVa, Va, or VIa, and subsequently introducing the second olefin monomer to initiate copolymerization. Triethyl aluminium and titanium tetrachloride are added to a solution of propylene in n-hexane and, after agitation for a period, isoprene is added. The copolymerization reaction is terminated by adding n-butanol and the product is precipitated with methanol.
