Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a highly active catalyst for polymerization of an olefin providing a highly stereoregular polymer without a catalyst-removing process, by intimately mixing and reacting a magnesium compound, an aluminum compound, an electron donor and a titanium compound.
CONSTITUTION: Olefins are polymerized in the presence of a catalyst prepared by intimately mixing and reacting (A) a magnesium halide (e.g. magnesium chloride), (B) an aluminum halide (e.g. aluminum chloride), (C) an electron donor (e.g. ethyl benzoate) and (D) a titanium compound (e.g. titanium tetrachoride). The catalyst is prepared by (1) the successive addition reaction of (A) with (B), (C) and (D); (2) treatment of (A), the addition product of (A) and (C), that of (A), (C) and (D), or that of (A) and (D), with (B) or the addition product of (B) and (D); (3) simultaneous addition-reaction of (A), (B) and (C); or (4) simultaneous addition reaction of the four components followed by the treatment with an optional component.
