Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepar a highly stereoregular α-olefin polymer, by using a catalyst system comprising a titanium component, prepared from a product of reaction between a specific halogen-containing magnesium compound treated with an organometallic compound and a titanium compound, and an organometallic compound componet.
CONSTITUTION: An α-olefin is (co)polymerized in the presence of a catalyst system comprising (A) a titanium component prepared by treating (a) a halogen-containing magnesium compound mechanically pulverized together with an organic ester, pref. magnesium chloride pulverized together with ethyl benzoate, with (b) an organometallic compound of a group IWIII metal in the periodic table, pref. triethylaluminum, and by reacting the proudct with preferably 0.05W0.2 moles (on the basis of magnesium) of a titanium compound, e.g. titanium tetrachloride, and (B) an organometallic compound component of a group IWIII metal.
EFFECT: Even if the amount of titanium is decreased, the catalyst has high activity.
