Abstract

PURPOSE: The polymerization of olefins is conducted in the presence of a catalyst system consisting of a specific solid catalyst component containing titanium and an organoaluminum compound to produce olefin polymers with high stereospecificity in high polymerization activity.
CONSTITUTION: An electron donor and a titanium tetrahalide are added to a solid magnesium compound so that the molar ratio of the electron donor/Mg becomes 0.01-10 and titanium tetrahalide/Mg 0.1-50 and they are treated at 150-350°C for 1 min to 10 hr to prepare the solid cstalyst component containing 1-20wt% of titanium. The polymerization of olefins is conducted at 1-100 atmospheric pressure and 50-100°C in the presence of a catalyst consisting of 1 mole of the resulting soild catalyst component calculated as Ti and 1-500 moles of an organoaluminum compound.
