Abstract

PURPOSE: To eleminate a calalyst removing step and to obtain a polyolefin economically, by using a mixed catalyst of a solid reaction product of a titanium or vanadium compound with a specific compound, an alnminum and/or zinc compound.
CONSTITUTION: Magnesium is reacted with a conjugated diolefin such as butadiene, etc. to give an erganomagnesium compound. One mol. of the magnesium compund is reacted with preferably 0.2W20 mol. of a titanium or a vanadium halide (e.g. TiCl4, etc.), and a solid component is separated. (A) The solid component is added to (B) an organoaluminum compound, e.g. trimethylaluminum, etc. and/or an organozinc compound, e.g. diethylzinc, in amounts of preferably 1W1000 moles of aluminum and/or zinc per mole of titanium or vanadium to prepare a mixed catalyst. An olefin, e.g, ethylene, etc. is polymerized preferably at 50W100°C by using the catalyst.
