Abstract

1,026,470. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 26, 1965, No. 3326/65. Heading H1D. The leads 4 and 5, Fig. 1 (not shown), to an elongated cylindrical arc tube 1 in a reflector lamp comprising a vitreous outer envelope formed by a concave reflector 14 and a transparent cover 15 peripherally sealed together, are joined to connectors sealed respectively through the centre of the reflector and the centre of the cover. The arc tube 1 comprises a thoriated tungsten cathode 8 and a tungsten anode 9 supported by a spring 11 in an envelope filled with xenon at a pressure of a fraction of an atmosphere to several atmospheres. Cathode lead 4 is welded to the centre of a bow-shaped conductor 23 whose ends are brazed together in a copper tube 24 which is brazed to a ferrule 18. Anode lead 5 is welded to an alloy wire 28 brazed to a ferrule 21 to which is also brazed a lead 29. Tube 24 has a side hole 25 through which nitrogen is passed while sealing the cover 15 to the reflector 14. The outer envelope is exhausted and then filled with nitrogen to a pressure of about half an atmosphere. The tube 24 is then pinched off at 27 and serves as a cathode terminal. The lamp may be used in a television projection system.
