Abstract
1,026,140. Printing processes. MODERN PLASTIC MACHINERY CORPORATION. April 29, 1964, No. 17793/64. Heading B6C. [Also in Division H1] A plastics coating 13 on a wire 12 is treated to improve its adherence to inks in an apparatus comprising means for advancing the wire along a linear path between a pair of electrodes 21 and 22 connected across a voltage source 33 which establishes a discharge between the electrodes across the surface of the coating 13. The electrodes 21, 22 extend along the length of the wire, at least one has an insulating coating 27, and each has respective sharp discharge edges 29, 24. A second pair of similar electrodes 34, 36 connected across a source 38 may be provided at right angles to the first pair and spaced therefrom along the length of the wire. The sources 33 and 38 supply alternating current at between 1000 and 10,000 volts, and the presence of the discharge, which may be invisible, corona, or brush, is indicated by an increase in the readings of current meters 32 and 37.
