Abstract

A process for the treatment of the surface of a shaped article, which surface is composed of an oxymethylene polymer, comprises applying thereto an organic acid having an ionization constant of at least 1 x 10-3 until a surface roughness not exceeding 10 micro-inches is produced so as to improve the adherence of coating materials to the surface. The organic acid is preferably an allylbenzene sulphonic acid or mono- or tri-chloroacetic acid, and is used in solution in an organic solvent. The oxymethylene polymers may be copolymers of formaldehyde with cyclic ethers.
