Abstract

Synthetic linear acrylic fibres are flame-proofed by treatment with an aqueous solution of phytic acid and urea and/or formaldehyde, drying, and heat-curing. The fibres are of acrylonitrile polymers or copolymers with e.g. mono-olefinic monomers, a fist of suitable substances being given in the Specification. Instead of urea, guanidine or dicyandiamide may be used, and instead of formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, glyoxal, paraformaldehyde or trioxymethylene may be used. The solution is applied to fibres by conventional means.
