Abstract

The fastness to wet treatments of substantive dyeings is improved by after-treating with an aqueous solution of a condensation product of a mixture of compounds containing amino or imino groups with an aliphatic aldehyde, e.g. formaldehyde, in weakly acid or neutral medium in the presence of an ammonium or monoamine salt, one component of the mixture of compounds containing amino or imino groups being a salt of guanidine or dicyandiamidine and the other component being cyanamide, dicyandiamide, melamine, urea or thiourea. In examples, dyeings of Congo Red, Chrysophenine G and Diamine Brown M on cotton are treated.
