Die erfindungsgemäß erhaltenen Umsetzungsprodukte zeichnen sich vor den im Beispiel 2 der deutschen Patentschrift 859 439 beschriebenen, aus Dicyandiamid, Guanidinsalzen und Formaldehyd im Molverhältnis 1 : 2: 4 hergestellten Umsetzungsprodukten dadurch aus, daß sie bei ihrer Verwendung als Mittel zur Verbesserung der Echtheitseigenschaften von Direktfärbungen mit hierbei üblicherweise zur Anwendung gelangenden Appreturmitteln, insbesondere mit Schiebefestmitteln auf der Grundlage von Silikaten und mit Hydrophobiermitteln auf der Grundlage von Silikonen oder Zirkonsalzen, verträglich sind; sie können infolgedessen mit derartigen Appreturmitteln in einem Bade gleichzeitig benutzt werden, ohne daß Ausfiockungen auftreten. Anschließend wird die Reaktionsmischung noch 5 Stunden auf 92bis95°C erhitzt und dann mit etwa 12 bis 15 ccm einer 20°/Oigen wäßrigen Natriumcarbonatlösung neutralisiert.
