Abstract

1,025,349. Lining penstocks &c. with concrete. EDMUND NUTTALL SONS & CO. (LONDON) Ltd. Sept. 23, 1964, No. 38863/64. Heading E1S. An inclined passage, such as a penstock, is lined with concrete by means of a cylindrical shutter 12 slidable on a frame 11. The frame 11 is supported on frames 13, 14 at either side of the shutter. The shutter comprises curved segments, two side segments which are pivoted inwards on the top segment for retraction after casting, the three segments then being lowered on jacks supporting the top segment and a bottom segment which is retracted upwardly on jacks. The ends of the shutter are inclined to its axis and are horizontal in operative position. The frame 13 is supported on the previously cast lining by pads 57 forced into engagement by turnbuckles 61 and the frame 14 is supported on the unlined rock by jacks 64, 66. After a ring 17 of the lining has been cast the pads 57 and jacks 64, 66 are released to allow the frame 11 to be slid through the shutter which is supported at its lower side by a pad 46 and a turnbuckle 48 against an already cast ring 18. After the frames 11, 13, 14 have again been fixed in position the shutter segments and pad 46 are retracted and the shutter moved along the frame 11 to a new position for casting the next lining ring. The pads 57 may be secured by screws 22 previously set in the concrete by means of the shutter.
