Abstract
A liquid corrosion-proofing composition for forming protective coatings on metal articles, e.g. of ferrous or non-ferrous metal, or alloy thereof, such as steel, Al, Mg, Cd, Cu, brass, bronze or white metal, galvanized or plated ferrous metal such as Cu, Ni or Cd plated, or phosphated or chromated Al or Zn surfaces, comprises a mixture of (A) the product of at least one aliphatic amine containing at least 6 carbon atoms heated with 0.25 to 2 moles of aqueous chromic acid per mole of amine, e.g. containing 5-74% H2CrO4, to remove all water present, and (B) a mixture of phosphate esters prepared by reacting P2O5 and/or o-, m-, or p-phosphoric acid with 1 to 10 moles of an alkylphenol per mole of P-containing agent at 40 DEG C or more. The ratio of (A) to (B) is preferably 0.05 to 20. Numerous aliphatic amides are specified such as mono-and C12 to C15 tertiary-alkyl primary amines, 2-ethylhexylamine being preferred. Numerous alkylphenols are also specified, e.g. para-tertiary amylphenol or polyisobutene-substituted phenol. Solvents for diluting a viscous product (A) may be benzene, toluene, xylene, petroleum spirits, naphtha, C6H5Cl, C2HCl3 or C2Cl6.
