Abstract
562,586. Preventing incrustation. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I., GOEBEL, M. T. J., and WALKER, 1. F. Nov. 20, 1942, No. 16425. [Class 123 (i)] [Also in Groups II and III] Atmospheric corrosion of metal surfaces is prevented by treating the surfaces with a primary; secondary or tertiary orthophosphate of a primary, secondary or tertiary amine having at least one long chain aliphatic hydrocarbon group of at least 8 carbon atoms, optionally carrying substituents, and attached directly to the amino nitrogen. Specified amine phosphates are hexadecylammonium dihydrogen phosphate, dodecylammonium dihydrogen phosphate, trihexylammonium dihydrogen phosphate, di- (trihexylammonium) monohydrogen phosphate, tri(trihexylammonium) phosphate, dioctylammonium dihydrogen phosphate, di(dioctylammonium) monohydrogen phosphate, tri(dioctylammonium) phosphate, octadecylammonium dihydrogen phosphate, di-octadecylammonium monohydrogen phosphate tri-octadecylammonium phosphate, 12-chloro-octadecylammonium dihydrogen phosphate, 12-hydroxy-octadecylammonium dihydrogen phosphate, 12-methoxyoctadecylammonium dihydrogen phosphate, 9 : 10-octadecenylammonium dihydrogen phosphate, ethyldecylammonium dihydrogen phosphate, di(dimethyldodecylammonium) monohydrogen phosphate and tri(ethylmethyloctylammonium) phosphate. These compounds may be used as solutions in water at elevated temperatures, as solutions in organic solvents, or in the molten form. They may also be applied as finely divided solids, the protective layer then being formed by fusing the solid particles to a continuous coating. They may also be emulsified or dispersed in a liquid, and when an oil is used as the carrier, it may remain in the coating. Specification 479,346 is referred to.
