Abstract

1,024,879. Recuperating tanker ballast. MINISTER OF ROUMANIAN MINISTRY FOR THE PETROLEUM & CHEMICALS INDUSTRY. Dec. 13, 1963, No. 49463/63. Heading BID. [Also in Division B7] A movable floating separator for decanting and recuperating oil products from tanker ballast and residual waters of ships is placed alongside a ship and the ballast is pumped through a distributer 8 mounted on a central bridge 7 and through pressure pipe lines 14 into compartments defined by walls 4 of waterproof material suspended from rods 3 which are fastened by loop brackets 5 within the perimeter formed by floating elements 1. The separated hydrocarbons emerging at the surface are collected by strainers 18 and pumped through flexible hoses 19 to stove tanks. The pipe lines 14 are perforated on their undersides and they are suspended beneath water level from cross rails 16 which stiffen the separator horizontally and from which partition walls of waterproof material can be suspended. Different kinds of oil are pumped into different compartments formed by the partition walls, controlled by valves 11, 12 and 13. Lead weights 6 maintain the walls in vertical position.
