Abstract

1,023,762. Belt gearing. H. KLINKICHT. Jan. 23, 1964 [Jan. 25, 1963], No. 2874/64. Heading F2Q. The ends of a toothed belt 1 from which project coplanar longitudinal reinforcing cables 3 terminating in spherical, cylindrical, or discshaped abutments 6, are joined by a connector comprising housing 7, 8, each formed of two members 9, 10 provided with complementary slots 13, 14 receiving the cable ends so that their abutments 6 bear on the inner walls of the members 9, which members 9 have side pins engaging connecting plates 20 (Fig. 3, not shown) carrying a toothed-shaped casting 23, and clamping plates 21 pivoted at 22 to adjacent belt teeth 2. The members 9, 10, held together by countersunk screws, have mating inclined surfaces 11, 12, and the gaps between the member 10 and the belt ends are filled with a grouting compound to protect the reinforcing cables from dirt. In a modification (Fig. 4-6, not shown), a hollow housing 26 comprising upper and lower halves 28, 27 is housed in a recess 45, 46 at each end of a toothed shaped casting 61, the ends of reinforcing cables 35 passing through holes 33 in the housings 26. In a further modification (Fig. 7, not shown), the housings 26 are slotted into recesses in the webs 53, 54 of the belt ends, and are connected by spring members 56, a spacing block 55 being gripped between the two housings. When the toothed belt is used as a sieve bar belt, the clamping plates 21 or 52 are pivoted to a sieve bar.
