Abstract

1,023,238. Measuring electrically. HONEYWELL Inc. Sept. 10, 1962 [Sept. 12, 1961], No. 34594/62. Heading G1N. A hygrometric device, of the type in which a hygroscopic element is heated to a temperature dependent upon atmospheric humidity, is supplied with heating current from a source having a drooping voltage regulation characteristic. A bifilar winding 51, 52 is wound on a lithium chloride saturated wick 50 carried by a steel former 41. The winding is connected to the secondary of a transformer 24 whose primary is fed through terminals 15, 20. A nylon plug member 42 seals tube 13, containing the hygroscopic element, from case 10 containing the transformer. A bulb 55 inside former 41 forms part of the temperature responsive system, which may actuate a humidity control apparatus. The transformer has a drooping voltage/ current characteristic so that when the unit is switched on while the wick is very moist the winding is not overheated.
