Abstract

A sensitive detector (1) comprises two resistive elements (2, 3) protected by a grille, allowing circulation. The resistive elements are heated by a low voltage and current from the secondary (4) of a transformer forming part of a power supply (5). Thermal effects in the presence of gas or vapour causes the resistive elements to activate a switch (6) to permit the application of power to a thyristor (7). This effectively amplifies the detector current and is controlled by a variable resistor (8) and converted by a network of resistors (9) and capacitors (10) for use as a control or alarm signal. The detector is especially for explosive gases given off by fuels, mines etc.
