Abstract

[Also in Division A1] A power cultivator includes an engine 2 carried by a tracked propelling unit 1 including provision for mounting a rotary hoe (Fig. 1) driven from a power take-off 10 or for attaching a plough (Fig. 3) to a connection 29 on the casing of the propelling unit. The engine 2 drives the shaft 3 of a track driving wheel located midway between the axes 4, 5 of a pair of truck-tensioning idler wheels. Rubber tyred wheels 6 may be secured to the shaft 3 for transportation purposes. The rotary hoe is driven through bevel gearing from a transmission shaft connected to the power take-off 10 and enclosed by a casing carrying a quadrant 11 provided with a series of holes selectively engaged by a pin on the propelling unit to permit the rotor to be tilted transversely for operation on slopes. A lever 14 controls clutching of the rotor drive through a linkage engaging notches 12, 13 corresponding to the engaged and disengaged positions. An adjustable skid 17 is provided for maintaining and adjusting engagement of the rotor with the ground. A cover 18 for the rotor carries a member 19 terminating in a sleeve 20 for a steering column 21 supporting an articulated parallelogram linkage (Fig. 5, not shown) carrying edged leading wheels 24. The column 21 may be adjusted vertically upon release of a lever 28 and is steered by a lever 25 on the handlebars 7 of the propelling unit 1 through a flexible cable 27 and a tie-rod 26. In Fig. 3 a frame secured by a bolt 30 to the connection 29 carries a ploughshare 32, a mouldboard 31 adjustable longitudinally by means of a slotted hole 36, and the leading wheels 24 which are positioned vertically upon release of the lever 28 by a lever 39 engaging holes in a quadrant 40. Transverse tilting of the plough together with the leading wheels 24 about a pivot 34 is controlled by a lever 33.
