Abstract

A box for fish &c. consists of a lid and body, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), each formed from a blank, each blank comprising a rectangular central base panel 1, 10 having four wall panels hinged to its edges, two of the longer walls 2, 4 of the lid and two of the shorter walls 12, 14 of the body having corner flaps 16, 18, &c. hinged at each end. These flaps 16, 18, &c. are formed in the blank by removing narrow strips of board and, by making the strips in the body slightly longer than those in the lid, drainage holes 21 are formed at each corner of the base of the body when the blank is folded to form a tray. The corner flaps of the lid are bent at right angles to the walls and secured on the inside of adjacent walls by adhesive tape or staples. The body, whose base 10 is of slightly smaller dimensions than that of the lid, is constructed in a similar fashion except that the comer flaps 16, 18 are secured to the outside of adjacent walls. When the lid is placed on the body, air gaps for thermal insulation are formed between the lid and body walls on all sides of the box. The box is made from waterproof fibre board. As described, there are three thicknesses of board at both sides of each corner of the box, but alternatively the corner flaps 16, 18 &c. of the lid and body may be fixed to corresponding walls, thereby providing four thicknesses of board at one side of each corner. In a modification the lid and body are constructed by diagonally creasing each of the four comer panels of the blanks so that when the walls are folded upwards at right angles to the base, a triangular-shaped pleat is formed which may be stapled to an adjacent wall. Drainage holes are then provided in the body by removing small portions of the board at each comer of the base.
