Abstract
1,021,669. Electric motors. BLACK & DECKER MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 23, 1962 [Nov. 27, 1961], No. 44417/62. Heading H2A. Capacitive coupling means between the rotor 11 and stator of an electric motor 10 having brushless commutation controls the energization of stator windings 12a ... 12b in synchronism with the rotation of the rotor. The rotor is either permanently magnetized or provided with windings and slip-rings, and is mechanically coupled to an electrode 18 which rotates closely to stationary electrodes 19 ... 22 energized by an H.F. oscillator 28 via respective secondary coils 23 ... 26 of a transformer 27. Each pair of corresponding stationary electrodes and secondary coils form a respective tuned circuit which when the rotating electrode 18 passes undergoes two resonances creating in respective resistors 29 ... 32 gate voltages which control respective switches and amplifiers 14 ... 17 to sequentially energize the stator windings 12a &c. from a power supply means 13. In Fig. 2, not shown, the switches and amplifiers 14 ... 17 are disclosed as comprising each a power transistor 42 triggered by signals from a pulse shaping circuit comprising two further transistors 57, 58 of which the latter is connected across the respective resistor 29 ... 32. In the embodiments the switches and amplifiers 14 ... 17 are such that current flows in both directions in the stator windings 12a &c., but in Fig. 4 not shown the windings are duplicated and each carry current in only one direction.
