A reactor core structure, intended for marine use, has a fuel assembly 13 of parallel fuel elements 16 mounted between parallel core support plates 11, 12, one end of the assembly being located in the first core support plate, and the other end having a spindle 18 which extends through the second core support plate; a latch member 19 having resilient arms 26 is slidably mounted on the spindle, and urged towards the fuel assembly by resilient means (spring 20), so that with the latch member in its latched position, the fuel assembly is retained against the second core support plate by the force exerted by the resilient means. In detail, the top face of a spider 17 is abutted on the lower face of the core support plate 11 and the latch member 19 pulled upwards against the spring 20 until the three resilient arms 26 spring outwards to engage an annular abutment 30. The lower support comprises three radial arms 26, one of which engages a slot 28 to prevent rotation of the assembly.
