Abstract
1,020,966. Measuring electrically. ESTABLISSEMENTS JULES RICHARDS. Oct. 9, 1964 [Oct. 11, 1963], No. 41226/64. Heading G1N. In the hygrometer probe shown, a plurality of filiform hygroscopic elements 15, e.g. human hairs, and a strain-gauge assembly 3 are connected together at one end by a bracket 14, the other ends of the hairs and the strain-gauge assembly being fixed to the body 1 of the probe, so that changes in length of the hairs consequent upon variations of humidity vary the strain in, and therefore the resistance of, the elements 4, 5 of the strain-gauge assembly. The initial tension of the hairs 15 is adjusted by a micrometer screw 21. A thermistor 51 may also be housed in the probe to measure ambient temperature. The probe comprises a hood 33 apertured at 34 to allow access to the humidity- and temperature-sensitive elements. The straingauges 4, 5 and thermistor 51 are connected into respective measuring circuits 45, 57, e.g. Wheatstone bridges, the indications of which may be combined, mentally or automatically, to provide an indication of dew-point.
