Abstract

1,019,992. Traversing device. BUCKLEY, MYERS & TAYLOR Ltd. Oct. 1, 1962 [Sept. 29,1961], No. 35105/61. Heading DlJ. [Also in Division F1] A hydraulically actuated traversing mechanism for a bobbin winding machine comprises a carriage 13 slidable on guide rods 10 and 11 between adjustable stops 12 on the guide rod 11. Secured to the carriage 13 are two cylinders 17, 21; the cylinder 17 being slidable on a fixed hollow piston rod 16 leading to an end housing 6, and the cylinder 21 being slidable on a fixed hollow piston rod 23 leading to a second end housing 7. The guide rod 10 is hollow so that pressurized fluid may be conveyed from the housing 6 to the piston rod 23 via the end housing 7. In operation a change-over valve in the housing 6 causes pressurized fluid to be applied to the 'hollow guide rod 10, and hence to the hollow piston 23, to cause the cylinder 21 to move to the right. This moves the carriage 13 to the right until it strikes the right-hand stop 12 to give an impulse to the guide rod 11. The impulse applied to the guide rod 11 operates the change-over valve in the housing 6 to cause the pressurized fluid to be applied to the hollow piston 16 whereupon the cylinder 17 moves to the left. This moves the carriage 13 to the left until it strikes the left-hand stop 12 to give a further impulse to the guide rod 11 to cause the change-over valve in the housing 6 to revert to its initial setting.
