Abstract
1,194,825. Spooling device, traverse. MARSHALL RICHARDS BARCRO Ltd. 4 Oct., 1967 [6 July, 1966], No. 30317/66. Heading D1J. A spooling device comprises means for rotating a spool 7 about its axis, a traverse means for effecting relative movement between a wire (or tube) (1) and the spool in the axial direction thereof, sensing means 4 responsive to wire pressure in the axial direction of the spool exerted by the wire, the sensing means 4 controlling the traverse means so as to spool the wire (1) at a rate sufficient to maintain a uniform wire pressure throughout. There is also a means to move the sensing means 4 relative to the wire at the completion of one layer so as to reverse the direction. of wire pressure on the sensing means 4. As shown, the sensing means 4 is mounted on a movable carrier 5. This carrier is moved relative to the wire at the completion of a layer by air pressure-actuated cylinder 14 which is energised when the reciprocating carriage engages adjustable limit switches 18. The carriage 6 (and therefore spool 8) is traversed by supplying hydraulic or pneumatic pressure fluid to cylinders 12 and 13 via a control valve in support 5. This valve see Fig. 6 not shown, is moved by the wire pressing on the bifurcated sensing means 4 so as to supply the pressure fluid to one or other of the cylinders 12 or 13. The amount of wire pressure required to operate the control valve can be adjusted by springs (not shown)
