Abstract

1,019,687. Slewing ships' derricks hydraulically. S/A. BERGENS MEKANISKE VERKSTEDER. Sept. 21, 1964 [Oct. 3, 1963], No. 38499/64. Heading B8B. The jib 11, Fig. 1, of a crane is slewed by two rotary vane hydraulic motors which operate in series so that the slewing angle is double the angle through which one motor can rotate. The motors are housed within the post 17, the wall 38, Figs. 5, 7, of which carries vanes 40, 41 and 53, 54. A central post 26, Fig. 1, carries vanes 36, 37, Fig. 5. When fluid is fed to chambers 42A, 42B, Fig. 5, the wall 38 rotates anticlockwise because the post 26 is rigid with a deck 24, Fig. 1. The upper blocks 53, 54 will also be rotated anticlockwise and since fluid is simultaneously supplied to chambers 55A, 55B vanes 51, 52, and with them the jib 11, will also rotate anticlockwise. By using three motors the angle of rotation of one may be trebled. Alternatively the turning moment may be increased, with a corresponding decrease in the angle of rotation, by using rotors with three or more vanes.
