Abstract

1,018,977. Evaporators. ALFA-LAVAL A.B. March 7, 1963 [March 23, 1962], No. 9098/63. Heading BIB. [Also in Division F4] A rotatable bank of nested, spaced-apart, conical plates define passages 29, 29a therebetween for a liquid to be evaporated or concentrated and a vapour respectively in indirect heat exchange one with the other. As shown the passages 29, 29a alternate through the bank which is housed in a stationary casing 7 and rotates on a hollow spindle 14 turned by a pulley 15. Liquid to be evaporated or concentrated enters the heat exchanger through passage 49 and passes thence through passages 46, 45, 28, to conical heat exchange passage 29 through which it flows as a thin film. From the passage 29 the liquid passes through radial ports 26a to an axially extending passage 26 leading to a groove 32 from which it is collected and discharged by a member 33. The resultant vapour passes from the channels 29 into the casing 7 through ports 54 and is discharged at 8 preferably under vacuum. Any liquid droplets which have been carried over by the vapour run down the walls of the casing 7 and are discharged at 9.
