Abstract

1,105,533. Evaporators, multi-stage flash type; desalination of water. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. 29 March, 1966 [5 April, 1965], No. 34611/67. Divided out of 1,105,532. Heading B1B. Liquid, e.g. salt water, is distilled by passing it through a series of communicating flash chambers each of which discharges flashed vapour directly into a common condenser chamber. As shown, the flash chambers are assembled in two stacks on either side of a common condenser chamber 42 which is traversed by cooled tubes 44. Each chamber has a vapour-outlet 32 leading directly into the common condenser chamber 42. The flash chambers are disposed in six sections 40, and the vapour-outlets 32 discharge into the common condenser chamber 42 at three different levels. Liquid may be passed independently through each section.
