Abstract

1,018,544. Delivering measured quantities of granular material. E. BATES. July 2, 1964 [Feb. 1, 1964], No.4387/64. Heading B8N. Apparatus for dispensing measured quantities of granular material, such as animal foodstuffs, comprises a delivery tube 11 and a measuring chamber 12 mounted one within the other, and means 13, 14, 15 for lifting the measuring chamber so that the material therein can fall out. As shown, the measuring chamber 12 is in the form of an open-end tube having a vee-groove 21 cut in its bottom end and adapted to co-operate with a vee-shaped plate 16 adjustably mounted on a wall 20. The chamber is provided with hooks 13 so that it may be raised or lowered by means of cables 14. In operation, the end of the chamber is normally in contact with the plate and material is fed through the tube 11, the material piling up inside the chamber until the end of the supply tube is blocked; the chamber is then raised to release the material. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), a closed-top cylinder 31 is welded to the bottom end of the delivery tube 30, the cylinder being a. sliding fit in the measuring chamber 32; dots 37 are formed in the top of the cylinder for co-operation with bars 35 secured to the vee-plate 34, the bars having holes 36 for split-pins in order that the amount of material dispensed may be varied.
