Abstract

1,017,429. Plug boards; two-part couplings. O. DUNKEL. April 16, 1963 [April 16, 1962], No. 14910/63. Heading H2E. A cross-bar distributer having a number of crossing bus-bars 6, 7 disposed in parallel planes and interconnected by plugs, is built up of identical insulating units 3 held between retaining plates 1 and 2, each unit 3 being formed with crossing grooves 4, 5 to receive bus-bars 6, 7 and with a through plug aperture 8 which opens into each bus-bar-retaining groove so that one of the aperture walls is formed by a bus-bar surface, with which a mating plug makes contact. The retaining plates 1, 2 have registering apertures 9 which may be polygonal or circular (Fig. 2, not shown), and the units 3 may be secured between the plates by rivets or screws, or may be located by means of various arrangements of co-operating projections and recesses. The pin 28 of a cross-bar plug is of asymmetrical cross-section to position it within the correspondingly-shaped aperture 8, and carries two sets 29, 30 of resilient wire-like contacts separated by an angle which corresponds to the angle at which the bus-bars cross, in this case a right-angle. The resilient contact elements 33 of each set have parallel arcuate portions spaced at different distances from the end of the pin so as to contact the spaced bus-bars. The elements 33 are mounted at one end on a metal support member, which may be common to both sets (Fig. 14, not shown) or individual (Fig. 11, not shown). In the latter case the two contact sets 29, 30 may be directly connected or connected through a diode inside the two-part grip 36 of the plug.
